We Are Excited To Announce Our Next

Artistic Director

Kenneth_Law_2 (3).jpg After months of meetings and careful consideration of our several extremely exciting candidates, the Board of Directors has selected Kenneth Law to be the new Artistic Director of Cellospeak. Ken’s official duties will begin after the 2015 Workshops in July and August, but he will make himself available, on a limited schedule, to assist in the final planning during the next six weeks. Then, in order to make a seamless transition, and to assist in the growth of Cellospeak, the Founder, Dorothy Amarandos, will continue on as Executive Chairman of the Board for the foreseeable future.

Kenneth, who is a brilliant performer, published author, and pedagogue, brings a host of skills and talents to the assignment – such as familiarity with the social media, a wide performing background and acquaintance with all kinds of musical styles and groups. His teaching experience includes six colleges and universities, the longest of which was after 15 years, as a tenured Professor, he was named Assistant Dean of the Petrie School of Music of Converse College in Spartanburg, SC. Ken has had annual experiences in hosting cello ensembles of the ASTA Annual Festivals, the largest of which was 250 cellists. During the last 20 years his performing and touring experiences have included a formidable list of concerts both in the US and Europe as a soloist, with his string quartet, as well as an orchestral musician. One year ago he founded a consortium of seven music teachers called “The Main Street Music Studios” in Fairfax VA, which provides music lessons to 150 students each week.

We especially appreciate Kenneth as a warm and caring person, full of energy and inspiration with ideas for expansion and improvement – always with collegiality and willingness to seek out the strengths of others as a true team player.  We are excited to find such a valuable leader for the many developing years ahead for Cellospeak.  Welcome Kenneth Law.

2015's 16 Cellos Concert a big success!

2015 16 Cellos Posed group.jpg

Cellospeakcov.jpg A big crowd came out to see the Cellospeak faculty perform as 16 Cellos in Washington, DC on March 8th.  Works performed   included Piazzolla tangos from the Angel series, Rimsky-Korsakov's Flight of the Bumblebee, Delius' Elegy, Respighi's Variations, the Piano Guys' Cello Song and a rarely performed Largo from the Villa-Lobos Concertante Fantasia for 16 Cellos.  It was an evening of lush cello sounds and musical variety.

Gary Fitzgerald, who arranged many of the pieces especially for this concert, conducted, Howard Sapp was the featured guest gospel singer and James Jacobs, from local radio station WETA 90.9, was our master of ceremonies.

Our faculty performers included Tanya Anisimova, Marion Baker, Robert Batttey, Nancy Baun,  Lynne Beiler, Victoria De La Cruz, Carl Donakowski, Kristin Gilbert, Carlos Figueroa, Harriet Kaplan, Kenneth Law, Sean Neidlinger, Alan Saucedo, Schuyler Slack, Bo-Min Son, and Irina Tikhonova.

Also wonderful was the gathering of past Cellospeak participants, Dorothy, the faculty and folks newly introduced to Cellospeak at the lively post-concert reception.  It was good to be reacquainted with those who could come.

And for those who couldn't come, Cellospeak tried for the first time to live stream the concert on the internet enabling folks afar to enjoy the event as well.

All in all, it was an enriching experience for everyone.

And for those who plan ahead, save 3:00 Sunday March 6th, 2016 for our next 16 Cellos concert!
