2015's 16 Cellos Concert a big success!
A big crowd came out to see the Cellospeak faculty perform as 16 Cellos in Washington, DC on March 8th. Works performed included Piazzolla tangos from the Angel series, Rimsky-Korsakov's Flight of the Bumblebee, Delius' Elegy, Respighi's Variations, the Piano Guys' Cello Song and a rarely performed Largo from the Villa-Lobos Concertante Fantasia for 16 Cellos. It was an evening of lush cello sounds and musical variety.
Gary Fitzgerald, who arranged many of the pieces especially for this concert, conducted, Howard Sapp was the featured guest gospel singer and James Jacobs, from local radio station WETA 90.9, was our master of ceremonies.
Our faculty performers included Tanya Anisimova, Marion Baker, Robert Batttey, Nancy Baun, Lynne Beiler, Victoria De La Cruz, Carl Donakowski, Kristin Gilbert, Carlos Figueroa, Harriet Kaplan, Kenneth Law, Sean Neidlinger, Alan Saucedo, Schuyler Slack, Bo-Min Son, and Irina Tikhonova.
Also wonderful was the gathering of past Cellospeak participants, Dorothy, the faculty and folks newly introduced to Cellospeak at the lively post-concert reception. It was good to be reacquainted with those who could come.
And for those who couldn't come, Cellospeak tried for the first time to live stream the concert on the internet enabling folks afar to enjoy the event as well.
All in all, it was an enriching experience for everyone.
And for those who plan ahead, save 3:00 Sunday March 6th, 2016 for our next 16 Cellos concert!
