2015's 16 Cellos Concert a big success!

2015 16 Cellos Posed group.jpg

Cellospeakcov.jpgA big crowd came out to see the Cellospeak faculty perform as 16 Cellos in Washington, DC on March 8th.  Works performed   included Piazzolla tangos from the Angel series, Rimsky-Korsakov's Flight of the Bumblebee, Delius' Elegy, Respighi's Variations, the Piano Guys' Cello Song and a rarely performed Largo from the Villa-Lobos Concertante Fantasia for 16 Cellos.  It was an evening of lush cello sounds and musical variety.

Gary Fitzgerald, who arranged many of the pieces especially for this concert, conducted, Howard Sapp was the featured guest gospel singer and James Jacobs, from local radio station WETA 90.9, was our master of ceremonies.

Our faculty performers included Tanya Anisimova, Marion Baker, Robert Batttey, Nancy Baun,  Lynne Beiler, Victoria De La Cruz, Carl Donakowski, Kristin Gilbert, Carlos Figueroa, Harriet Kaplan, Kenneth Law, Sean Neidlinger, Alan Saucedo, Schuyler Slack, Bo-Min Son, and Irina Tikhonova.

Also wonderful was the gathering of past Cellospeak participants, Dorothy, the faculty and folks newly introduced to Cellospeak at the lively post-concert reception.  It was good to be reacquainted with those who could come.

And for those who couldn't come, Cellospeak tried for the first time to live stream the concert on the internet enabling folks afar to enjoy the event as well.

All in all, it was an enriching experience for everyone.

And for those who plan ahead, save 3:00 Sunday March 6th, 2016 for our next 16 Cellos concert!

Artistic Director Search

This season of the 2015 Workshops will be Dorothy Amarandos'  last year to serve as Artistic Director (she will still serve as Executive Chairman of the organization) So the search is on for candidates for this position, which will amount to about half time of each week for eight or nine months of the year. Responsibilities will be shared by the Administrative Team  who will help make the transition move smoothly for the newcomer. A new Artistic Director will be sought who will champion the mission of Cellospeak to "provide opportunities for inspiring and enriching cello instruction for adults from all professions, backgrounds, and stages of life to come together in the Cellospeak Programs to share a love of music and the cello."

The job description includes the selection of the distinguished faculty, all music choices and assignments for the two workshops as well as for special programs like the "16 Virtuoso Cellos Concert" and the "Play Dates" as they are scheduled. Finding the appropriate music will include finding appropriate arrangements for each group as well as the scheduling of the creative programs and curriculum for study in each of these events. Selection of possible new venues for the workshops or Play Dates and Concerts, which may change with growth, and vendors who provide sale of useful items for participants, and the selection of conductors and accompanists as well as special presenters and teachers or distinguished guests may also be required from time to time

The complete announcement describing this highly creative position , which will begin on November 1, 2015 and will end on August 31, 2017 has a deadline for applications on April 1, 2015.
