WHAT ARE THE TWO CELLOSPEAK WORKSHOPS FOR ADULTS?
Cellospeak is expanding its Cello Workshop Programs for Adults in 2012. There will be a choice of two distinctly different weeks of programming this year. The first week, from
Sunday July 29
th
to Saturday August 4
th
will be directed toward each participant developing his/her own individual skills: the second week,
Sunday August 5
th
to Saturday August 11
th
will place special emphasis on techniques of ensemble playing but will be essentially organized the same way that previous workshop weeks have been, with quartet performances and a final concert of the choir. We will not be limiting the participation in either workshop by experience or ability (except that there will not be a section five in the second workshop), but merely providing two different choices for emphasis of instruction.
Skill-Builder Workshop
The first workshop week will have the participants divided into four separate groups, (Beginner, Elementary, Intermediate, & Advanced) each of which will have its own technique class and its own ensemble class every day designed around the capabilities of the class. The emphasis will be placed upon the different areas of technique as they relate to different stages of experience – from absolute beginners to very advanced – and materials selected accordingly. There will be four 1/2 hour private lessons during the week, and every day there will be two hours available for individual practice time and/or “pick-up” groups. There will be an opportunity for those who have prepared a piece to perform with piano accompaniment, and the final event will be performances by the four ensemble groups.
Ensemble Workshop
The second workshop week will again divide the participants according to four levels of experience but only for the purpose of assignments in the obligatory cello choir and quartets. The emphasis on ensemble playing will be similar to previous years with technique classes, sectionals, and quartet performances, but also provide time for practice and “pick-up” groups . The final concert on Friday evening with the large cello choir and faculty playing will be the culmination of the two weeks. We hasten to say that those participants who wish to attend with their friends from previous years – to bring pre-formed quartets, and music to play – are encouraged to do so. We do understand that part of the attraction to attending a Cellospeak Workshop is to renew personal and musical friendships each year, and we do not wish to alter that in any way.

WHERE ARE THEY HELD?
Both workshops will meet at Bryn Mawr College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. This outstanding facility will greatly enhance an already unique and special time. Participants will appreciate the comfortable air-conditioned accommodations, which include both large and small rehearsal and teaching rooms, beautiful lounges, a superb dining hall serving exquisitely prepared meals in buffet style, and single occupancy (or double, if desired) dormitory rooms (air-conditioned!) with elevators to make cello carrying simple.

WHO WILL ATTEND?
Enrollment will be limited for each of the workshop weeks – each will have a minimum of 40 participants and a maximum of 64, with a ratio of 1 virtuoso faculty
to 4 participants.
Application forms will be available on our web site early in January, and they will be accepted on a “first-come, first-served” basis with priority given to previous participants until March 1, 2012.
