Cellospeak is a community of cello enthusiasts who enjoy sharing their love and knowledge of the instrument. We believe you can begin your journey with the cello at any age and run two week-long summer workshops for adult cellists of all levels. Founded by pedagogue Dorothy Amarandos in 2000, Cellospeak is a one-of-a-kind paradise for lovers of this most mellifluous and noble instrument.Learn About Our Mission
It’s a HEALTHY ADDICTION.
I love the chance to focus on cello playing with others and the many people who come year after year. The campus is a thoughtful setting and the musicianship is top notch!
I learned so much from the coaches. The various warm-up techniques were invaluable!
The teachers here were able to teach me about aspects of technique that I’ve been working on at home but have not had success with. Having so many professionals around to help me learn has really helped because the information finally is being presented in a way I understand.
There may be nowhere else on the planet that exudes so much encouragement and support.
I love Susanna and Bomin’s positive embracing leadership.
Thank you for putting this on. The atmosphere is warm and supportive. I get to learn so much. Great teachers. Everyone is accepting. People are here for the love of music.
Top-notch faculty, helpful, cheerful administration, wonderful people everywhere.
The faculty was awesome and went out of their way for me, which was extremely appreciated and touched me.

Oona Cheung is a long-time member of Cellospeak and has held the role of Treasurer for many years. Her love of cello started at her church, which had a need for a cellist...So she decided to learn! Oona eventually found her way to Dorothy Amarandos, Cellospeak's founder, who became a major influence on Oona's early development in cello. Dorothy invited her to attend the organization's second annual Summer Workshop in 2002; thus began Oona's long relationship with Cellospeak. Oona's favorite part of the workshop is playing in quartets because she gets to play with other cellists and can switch parts for each piece. She also loves listening to music and playing Dotzauer duets, though she doesn’t have a favorite cellist. Oona is “always inspired by Cellospeak!”
Barbara, who is from Chicago, is a retired teacher who continues to tutor Spanish at her local community college. She also does some literacy tutoring. Barbara began her musical journey playing the flute in high school. She started playing the cello in 2000 when her children were involved with instrumental and vocal music. Barbara’s first cello was a rental. Her current cello, cello #3, was purchased from a student who had attended the Curtis Institute of Music, and decided she wanted to raise horses. So she sold her cello to Barbara so that she could buy a horse! Read more
